Vineland duo runs at state championships

TOMS RIVER—Vineland runners Ashlynn Newton and Georgina Chalow both competed at the State Group 4 Championships on February 23 at the Bennett Center.

Chalow placed sixth overall in the 1,600-meter run, finishing with a time of 5:16.19. Newton was 13th in the 3,200-meter run, posting a time of 11:41.72.

Both runners competed in the 800 meters. Newton was eighth in 2:33.40, while Chalow finished 11th in 2:27.81.

On February 14, Chalow won a gold medal in the 1,600, placing first at the South Jersey Group 4 Championships. She finished in 5:06.36. Also running the 1,600 meters for Vineland were Kyree Black (5:47.49) and Dulce Flores (6:04.21).

At the same meet, Newton won gold in the 3,200-meter run with her time of 11:32.05. Newton was second in the 800-meter run (2:19.07) and Chalow was third (2:22.23). Also running was Black (2:37.44).

In the 55-meter dash, Beatrice Sotomayer was ninth with a time of 7.59 seconds. Leah Mears (7.66) and Kimora Gray (8.09) also competed for Vineland. Marissa Strickland (1:04.36), Aaliah Folk (1:05.25) and Shanelle Rose (1:07.38) ran the 400 meters.

The 55-meter hurdles saw Zaria Gould finish in 10.47 seconds, while Destiny Pritchett (10.51) and Jalexis Rodriguez (10.98) also ran.

In field events, Mackenzie Chalow-Moore was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9-feet. Natalia Kobys cleared 7-6 to take 11th place.

In shot put, Skylar Brooks’ throw of 30-feet, 4.5-inches earned eighth place, while Kaliyah Reyes (21-3) and Arianna Harold (18-5.75) also threw for Vineland.

On the boys side, Jason Arbona had the best throw for the Fighting Clan, 30-7.5. Andre Barnes (29-5.5) and Lourdeson Michel (23-1.5) also competed.

High jump saw Jakhi Youmans clear 5-8 to earn seventh place, and Sean Ryan cleared 5-4.

On the track, Giovanni Salomon (6.93), Elijah Milbourne (6.96) and Zey’yon Evans Rosa (7.10) ran the 55-meter dash, while Salomon (53.99) and Cesar Perez (54.66) ran the 400-meter dash.

Jordan Chandler (2:20.90), Zach Goldsborough (2:23.73) and Jake Griggs (2:32.21) competed in the 800-meter run.

In the 1,600-meter run, Chandler finished in 5:00.15, Maximelio Giardino had a time of 5:07.26 and Jake Griggs finished in 5:18.91. Yadiel Robles Padilla ran the 3,200 meters in 11:47.37 and Isiah Strickland finished in 12:00.91.

Elijah Choice had a time of 9.66 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles and Andrew Vidal finished in 10.24.
