Stingrays wrap up regular season


The Hammonton Stingrays hosted the Collingswood Marlins on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Hammonton Swim Club for their fifth and final swim meet of the summer season.


Across the course of 67 official events, a total of 86 swimmers from the Hammonton Stingrays competed. The Collingswood Marlins won the swim meet with a final score of 338 to 226.


The swim meet began with Hammonton resident and swim team parent, Maddie Birnbaum, singing the National Anthem. Following this, younger, developing swimmers from both teams participated in fun-filled kickboard races.


In the 48 individual events, Hammonton swimmers achieved 17 first-place finishes (85 points), 28 second-place finishes (84 points), and 22 third-place finishes (22 points).


Individual first-place winners included: Guinevere Rizzo (3 events); Joey Ezzi and Paige Gribbin (2 each); Giovanni Catania, Kellen Frankel, Grace Gribbin, Gavin Johannsen, JohnPaul Mazza, Owen Nadeau-Roos, Elizabeth Nees, Andra Petway, Felicity Reedy, and Nathan Reedy (1 each).


In the 19 relay events, Hammonton secured five first-place finishes (35 points). The following 20 swimmers placed first in a relay event: Sylvia Birnbaum, Madison Carley, Jessica Dursch, Joey Ezzi, Kellen Frankel, Paige Gribbin, Everly Husta, Eli Johannsen, Gavin Johannsen, Milan Koshkin, Owen Nadeau-Roos, Elizabeth Nees, Andra Petway, Felicity Reedy, Nathan Reedy, Charlie Rieder, Guinevere Rizzo, Nina Rizzotte, Juliet Wilson, and Mags York.


The league championships will be held this weekend at the Vineland Dolphin Swim Club. Swimmers ages 12 and under will compete on July 27, and swimmers ages 13 and over will compete on July 28.


Eight Stingrays swimmers qualified for individual events by swimming faster than the qualifying times in one or more events throughout the season, earning automatic entries into the league championships. The qualified swimmers are Madison Carley, Giovanni Catania, Paige Gribbin, JohnPaul Mazza, Andra Petway, Nathan Reedy, Charlie Rieder, and Guinevere Rizzo. These eight swimmers will be joined by a select group of teammates to round out the championship lineup and represent the Stingrays.
