ATLANTIC CITY—Ty Powell drove in five runs and Jimmy Mantuano homered as St. Joseph Academy’s baseball team extended its winning streak to three games and completed a sweep of Atlantic City on April 25, defeating the host Vikings 19-3.
After falling behind 3-1 after two innings, St. Joe broke the game open with a six-run rally in the top of the third, then added two in the fourth before sealing the win with 10 runs in the fifth inning.
In addition to Powell’s two hits and five RBIs, Nick Melchiore went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs and Mantuano drove in four runs in the win.
Powell also earned the victory, striking out six in four innings of work.
A day earlier, on April 24, St. Joseph cruised past Atlantic City 13-3. The Wildcats were in control from the start, scoring six times in the bottom of the first.
Gavin Steiner notched the win with three strikeouts. At the plate, Powell drove in three, Melchiore had two hits and two RBIs, Gavin Ramsi drove in a pair and Jake Marootian had two RBIs and scored three times.
St. Joe was scheduled to play at Holy Spirit on April 28, but rain postponed that game until May 2. On May 1, the Wildcats host Holy Spirit, but both those games ended too late for this edition.
On May 4, St. Joseph plays at Buena at 4 p.m.
