Joseph A. “Buddy” Matise, 99, of Hammonton, N.J., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 20, 2024. Buddy’s calming nature, thoughtfulness and bright smile will surely be missed by everyone who knew him.
Joe was born in Williamstown, N.J. and graduated from Hammonton High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 and was a member of the VFW Passalaqua Post #1026 of Hammonton. He worked for Hammonton Park Clothes as a clothing cutter and later as an instructor in the Trenton State Prison clothing shop until his retirement in 1991. Joe spent many memorable winters with his wife and children in Vero Beach, Florida which became a family tradition. One of Joe’s favorite activities was a weekly card game with lifelong friends and most mornings you would find him with his McDonalds coffee group talking for hours. His true joy in life was rooted in time spent with family.
