Charles A. Dispoto, 96, of Ocean City, N.J. passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at his residence. Born in Jersey City, he moved to Hammonton in 1962 where he lived until moving to Buena Vista Township then finally to Ocean City. Mr. Dispoto served in the United States Army during the Korean War, he also served in the United States Merchant Marines travelling to Iran, Iraq, Arabia and Kuwait. He began his teaching career in 1955 in Jamesburg, N.J., in 1962 he became the high school principal in Hammonton, N.J. In 1972 he became assistant superintendent of schools where he remained until 1977, when he became the Superintendent. Mr. Dispoto formerly held the position of Atlantic County Career Education Coordinating Council, President of Cape-Atlantic Principal’s Association and Board of Directors for CAPA. He was also a former member of the Hammonton Kiwanis Club, an organization he enjoyed being a part of.
He was predeceased by his wife of 24 years, Frances O. Dispoto; his son, William A. Dispoto; and his son-in-law, Thomas Oves. Mr. Dispoto is survived by his two sons, Charles J. Dispoto and his wife Janice, Robert A. Dispoto and his wife Mary; his daughter, Mary Oves; one sister, Marion LaManna; his grandchildren, Emily Dispoto-Moorhead (Shawn), Andrew Dispoto (Jess), Laura Dudek (Collin), Zachary Dispoto (Brittany), John Dispoto, Olivia Dispoto, John Oves, Dustin Oves, and Tommy Oves; his great grandchildren, Indigo Dispoto-Moorhead, Bodhi Dispoto-Moorhead and Benjamin Dudek.
A viewing will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish Church of St. Anthony's, 285 Route 206 in Hammonton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victories Cemetery, Landisville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
