To the Editor,
My name is June Byrnes and I’m running for Atlantic County Commissioner at Large representing Hammonton. Here is a little information about myself. I am serving my second term on City Council in Linwood, N.J. I love what I do in Linwood and I’m ready to take it to the county level.
I chair the Neighborhood Services Committee serving as the Linwood Schools Liaison, Chair of the Senior Citizens and Veterans Committees, the historical society, and the Recreation and Library Boards. In addition, I sit on the Public Works and Finance Committees.
Previous to council, I sat on the Zoning Board, Superintendent’s Advisory Board, and had an active role on Court Appointed Special Advocate’s of Atlantic and Cape May Counties Advisory Board.
I am a life long resident of Atlantic County and have always enjoyed the town of Hammonton for shopping, restaurants, the best festivals and visiting great friends. I was most recently in town for The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I came home with a new t-shirt, the best cannoli’s for my family, good memories and many new friends.
Hammonton doesn’t disappoint when it comes to hosting events. I had a great time buying blueberries at the Red, White and Blueberry Festival in June, and have a new appreciation for classic cars from attending Cruisin’ Main Street on May 19. Hammonton is indeed remarkable, and you are all fantastic at making everyone feel welcome. It’s communities like you that make Atlantic County a great place to live.
I am a roll your sleeves up and get the job done type of person when there is work to be completed. I am always here to listen to residents concerns and comments and take action.
During COVID-19, when people were out of work and struggling to get their unemployment checks, I volunteered in Senator Chris Brown’s office to return phone calls and collect information to guide these people to start receiving their checks. So many of his constituents had maxed out their credit cards to buy food for their children and buy life depending medications such as insulin.
Every person I spoke to was appreciative to receive a call from the Senator’s office offering help. This is when I realized I was ready to take on a larger role in government. Helping others is a passion of mine. In Atlantic County we all want similar things in the best job opportunities, quality education for our children, public safety and to maintain our home values. All while keeping our taxes down.
Thank you Hammonton for being you. I look forward to more opportunities to meet everyone. Kind Regards,
June Byrnes
Republican Candidate, Atlantic County Commissioner at Large
