Hammys recognize downtown businesses

Last week The Hammonton Gazette hosted the first ever Hammy Awards Ceremony; it was a fun and celebratory night, but the best part in my opinion was seeing how well represented the Downtown Hammonton business community was.

Dozens of Downtown businesses were finalists in multiple categories, and many left the ceremony as proud recipients of 2024 Hammy Awards. The support of the community was overwhelmingly positive for our small, locally-owned and unique businesses, especially within the Downtown District.

This support and enthusiasm for our Downtown business community is especially important during the summer months. While families go on vacation or spend weekends down the shore, our downtown businesses stay open and continue to serve our community’s needs. While traffic downtown ebbs and flows, the challenges and costs of keeping a business open stay the same! The support and patronage of the community is important year-round, but especially during these months. We want to personally thank everyone who is prioritizing shopping local and shopping small, all year round.

MainStreet Hammonton was honored to accept a Hammy Award on behalf of Downtown Hammonton, for Local Brags: Best Local Attraction. We are so thrilled and grateful that the past four decades of revitalization work by Hammonton Revitalization Corporation, the Greater Hammonton Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Hammonton, and countless partners and volunteers have transformed our Downtown District into a place where people want to “shop, dine, live, work and play,” just like HRC’s vision statement says.

As the fall and holiday seasons approach, we want to challenge you to make a positive local impact by shopping small and supporting local wherever and whenever you are able.
