Hundreds of classic cars will fill the streets of downtown Hammonton, in one of the most unique and family-filled classic car shows in the state, happening this year for the 30th time..
MainStreet Hammonton is proud to present the long-held annual tradition in its 30th year, “Cruisin’ MainStreet: Remember Friday Nights” which will be held on Friday, May 17 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, May 18.
Cruisin’ MainStreet offers a nostalgic glimpse of yesteryear by celebrating the 1950s with a dance performance by Paul Morris DanceXplosion, bubble blowing and hula-hoop contests for multiple age groups, and costume contests for all ages. The eateries and specialty shops throughout Downtown Hammonton will provide fun for the entire family all evening.
This year’s event will continue the new tradition of the “Best ‘50s Dressed Costume Contest.”
“We want families to dress in their 1950s finest. Watch some classic ‘50s films for inspiration, slick back your hair or lace up those saddle shoes and get ready to ‘sock hop’ and hula hoop the night away!” MainStreet Hammonton Executive Director Mica McCullough said.
There will be prizes for best children’s costume and best adult costume. To participate in the contest, you will need to register at the MainStreet Hammonton table on Central Avenue by 6 p.m. The contest will be held later in the evening, followed by the Classic Cars Cruise down Bellevue Avenue at the end of the night around 9 p.m.
There is no registration process for classic cars to participate in this event; come downtown early to stake out your spot, and enjoy the evening.
“We are so grateful for our event sponsors who continue their support of this Cruisin’ MainStreet event. This event would not be possible without Action Auto Body, Al & Rich’s, Crescent Service and Bruno’s Auto Parts. Thanks to these generous sponsors and the involvement of the Cruisin’ Classics Car Club, we have been able to offer this annual tradition for nearly three decades,” event organizer Angela Donio said.
MainStreet Hammonton received funding through a grant from the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel & Tourism for marketing this event. For more information about Cruisin’ MainStreet, you can call (609) 567-9014 or www.downtownhammonton.com.
